COVID-19: Football remains suspended as government eases restrictions

The Ghana Football Association’s quest to return to competitive fixtures has being pushed back again.

This was after the President of the Republic Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo announced on Sunday, 31 May, 2020 that he has extended the suspension of sporting events till the end of July in his state address delivered on Sunday evening.

”I have, by Executive Instrument, provided for these new directions, and extended the suspension of the remaining public gatherings until 31st July”

“I therefore refer to the suspension of sporting events, nightclubs, cinemas, drinking spots, bars, beaches, festivals, funerals, political rallies, and large religious gatherings such as crusades, pilgrimages and conventions,” President address to the nation.

In March, all football activities in Ghana were being put on hold because of the novel corona virus outbreak which has claimed over 300,000 lives globally.

The Ghana Football Association will now wait and take a final decision on the future of the leagues on 30 June, 2020.
