Funeral worker sacked over Maradona selfie
A funeral worker has been fired after widespread outrage erupted over his selfie next to the lifeless body of football legend Diego Maradona went viral.
On the day the 1986 FIFA World Cup winner laid to rest after millions of tributes across the world upon his death being confirmed on Wednesday, chaos erupted in Argentina and on social media.
While thousands streamed into the streets of Buenos Aries to pay their final respects, police were forced to control the masses as they protested against the prevention of honouring their hero.
But perhaps the biggest controversy has been the funeral parlour worker posting a distasteful selfie and the deceased body of the iconic footballer which has since gone viral on social media.
The shocking image, which Domesticsportsgh.com has opted not to share, displayed the man holding thumbs and smiling next to the coffin where 60-year-old laid ahead of his funeral.
It’s been suggested the Sepelios Pinier parlour has immediately sacked the man, who is said to have been tasked to prepare the body for the wake.
