Lewandowski: The Best FIFA Men’s Player

Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski has overcome competition from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to be crowned as The Best FIFA Men’s Player for 2020.

ewandowski, 32, was crowned as the world’s best footballer on Thursday evening after being named as the Best Men’s Player at the virtual FIFA The Best Football Awards 2020 ceremony in Zurich, Switzerland.

Between 20 July 2019 and 7 October 2020, which was the period of time considered for this year’s award, the Poland international netted an incredible 60 goals for Bayern, including 55 across all competitions last season to guide the Bavarians to a historic treble.

The prolific Poland international ended the 2019/20 campaign as the leading goalscorer in the each of the Bundesliga, German Cup and UEFA Champions League, with his remarkable record in front of goal playing a key role in Hansi Flick’s side winning all three competitions.

Lewandowski’s remarkable achievements over the course of the year saw him triumph over FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi, who won the 2019 award and ended third this time around, and Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who took home the coveted prize in 2016 and 2017 and claimed the runners-up spot on this year’s podium.

The achievement caps the latest notch in the former Borussia Dortmund striker’s belt after he was previously named as the 2019/20 UEFA Men’s Footballer of the Year, while he also recently became only the third player in Bundesliga history to surpass 250 goals in the competition.
