Ghana’s AFCON qualifier against South Africa to be played at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium-Reports

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match between Ghana and South Africa is set to be played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Pitted in Group C of the qualifiers to next year’s AFCON, the Black Stars have already beaten the Bafana Bafana in the first meeting and will be keen on picking another three points to boost their chances of early qualification.

Ahead of the crucial Africa Cup of Nations 2022 qualifier match, the mayoral committee has agreed for the game to be played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

In line with that, approval has been given to the acting city manager Mandla George to enter into an agreement with the South African FA to make arrangements to prepare the venue.

Meanwhile, the Ghana FA has written to CAF asking for the upcoming match to be played in a different country as a result of the increasing number of Coronavirus cases in South Africa.

Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is one of 5 wholly stadiums was built expressly to host the 2010 FIFA World Cup, though it will undoubtedly provide residents of this beautiful seaside city with many years of use as a top-end sports and entertainment venue.

The stadium has a capacity of 46,000 and provides soccer fans with a breathtaking view out over neighboring North End Lake. This unique locale of lake and ocean also sets this stadium apart from others all over the world.

Since the 2010 FIFA World Cup, this stadium has become the home of the EP Kings, Southern Kings, and Chippa United, and has hosted a number of tournaments, matches, and even music concerts.
