2022 WCQ: Montari Kamaheni replaces injured Gideon Mensah in Black Stars squad

Ashdod FC left-back Montari Kamaheni has been called to the Black Stars for the upcoming 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa.

The former Ghana U-20 and Dreams FC defender replaces Bordeaux star Gideon Mensah who has been ruled out of the qualifiers due to injury.

The GFA confirmed his late inclusion Monday:

“…Head coach Milovan Rajevac has invited Montari Kamaheni of Ashdod FC to replace Gideon Mensah of Bordeaux.

“The left-back suffered bruises on his left ankle during Saturday’s French Ligue 1 clash against PSG,” read portions of a publication o the Ghana FA website.

Kamaheni who plays in the Israeli league is expected to join the team on Tuesday before they depart Ghana for South Africa.

The 21-year-old has played 14 games for Ashdod in the 2021/22 Israeli top-flight, scoring one goal so far.

Ghana play Ethiopia on November 11 in Johannesburg, before facing off with South Africa at Cape Coast three days later.
