Qatar 2022 WCQ: We’ll compete to restore ‘our battered image’ – Zimbabwe coach

Zimbabwe head coach Norman Mapeza said his outfit will compete to restore their ‘battered’ image in the Warriors final two group 2022 World Cup qualifying games.

Zimbabwe has picked only one point from four games and bottom of Group G.

The Warriors will take on South Africa Thursday in their fifth group game away in Johannesburg before hosting Ethiopia in their final group game three days later.

Mapeza, who took over from Zdravko Logarusic, has so far overseen two matches – the defeats to Ghana in last month’s doubleheader but believes the team can restore national pride with time.

“This is a process not an event. We are trying to build a team that can compete. A team for the future because we need to restore our national pride,” he said.

“Right now our image is battered and we need to restore that. It’s not about proving a point but building a winning team and it’s a process.”
