South Africa coach Hugo Broos says “it’s a pity” Fifa approved the Cape Coast Stadium to host the Group G decider of the African qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup.
The Belgian is unhappy his side has to endure hours of road journey from Ghana’s capital Accra to Cape Coast for the game after the flight from South Africa.
The Bafana Bafana play as guests to the Black Stars in the final group game that determines the team to make it to the playoffs on Sunday, November 14, 2021.
Speaking at the pre-match conference on Saturday evening, Broos said: “It was a long day today, we trained in the evening, but we needed it because the travel yesterday was exhausting for us.
“It’s a pity that Fifa allowed such things when you have to play qualifiers for a World Cup.
“Not only travel but if you have to take a bus after six hours flight, to go 120 kilometres and you do three hours on the bus.
“I don’t blame Ghana for that, I blame Fifa. Those are situations that are not appropriate for qualifiers of the World Cup.”
South Africa leads the group with 13 points, three ahead of Ghana, but any sort of defeat for the Bafana Bafana will end their journey to the 2022 World Cup.
