The Baba Yara Sports Stadium is set to host the all-important Ghana versus Nigeria FIFA World Cup 2022 Playoff first leg encounter, Western Region’s leading online sport portal, Domesticsportsgh.com can report.
This follows concerns raised with the condition of the pitch at the original venue in Cape Coast.
The Pitch quality of the Cape Coast Stadium has suffered after the Ghana Government held an Independence Commemoration Day Parade a week ago.
The activities that took place have affected the pitch with emerging pictures in the event’s aftermath raising concerns about how ready it will be when Ghana hosts Nigeria on March 25.
To this effect, CAF sent an inspection team to monitor alternative venues in the country before activating the option of playing the game on a neutral ground.
The CAF Inspection team on Sunday conducted an inspection exercise at the Baba Yara Stadium and will follow it up with a similar exercise at the Cape Coast Stadium on Monday afternoon.
Afterward, a report will be sent to CAF with recommendations.
According to reports and checks available to us indicates that, the CAF Inspection team are likely to settle on Baba Yara based on their observations during the inspection.
The decision to switch will be emboldened when his inspection of the Cape Coast venue confirms the pitch to be in a bad state and won’t be ready for the game.
