Why Samartex could replace Henry Wellington despite historic achievement

After 26-year of the club formation with over 30 coaches, the club achieved it’s dream of making it to the Ghanaian top-flight football for the very first time under the tutelage of experienced Henry Wellington.

It has been said that, he has done a splendid job so far, leading Samartex to the top of the Zone Two table with 68 points.

Perhaps, the biggest moment was againts his former club Nzema Kotoko where he broke their outstanding home record at the newly constructed Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III Arena.

Just under 5 days, Samartex have begun to search for a new coach to replace their history making trainer Henry Wellington.

A section of Samartex fans won’t be happy when such decision is made, whether he will be replaced or might be the assistant to whoever comes.

Why cant he be the head coach?

The simple answer can be found in Ghana Football Association competition’s rule of Article 12 of the club licensing regulations which focuses on the personnel and administrative criteria for a Premier League club to keep their license.

According to Article 12.1 (a), every Ghana Premier League club must have a head coach with a minimum of a CAF coaching license A or its equivalent.

It also reads that, if an expatriate seeks to manage a GPL team, he needs to have a UEFA A coaching license or better.

So in this case, Samartex might look for a new coach to replace Henry Wellington who has already shown that he has the skill despite lacking the qualification.
