The inside story of Karela United’s whirlwind takeover and what’s next for HI consortium.
Just before 12pm on Wednesday afternoon you could have heard a pin drop at Aiyinase town all because of the rumours surrounding Karela United proposed takeover.
And by 6pm the news had emerge from the northern region that the long awaiting news was over and that this should be deemed as positive stuff for Karela United’s takeover.
On January 2021, the executive director of the club, Madam Abena Brigidi, the wife of the late Karela United’s owner publicly made to Domesticsportsgh.com that, Karela United is open to investors and whoever is ready to invest in the club will be welcome due to the financial reasons.
From our reliable source, the club have been spending over Ghc 81,000 every month since 2020 and very difficult to be run by a person who has no interest in football, that could be worry and need to get an investors to put up an immediate support to the club needs.
The owners of the Aiyinase-based club however, had negotiations with other people in other to get more prominent figures on board to finance the club, until when Domesticsportsgh.com discovered that, the club owner spoke to the Member of Parliament of Ellembelle, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah who’s very close to her late husband, to assist in getting an investor or personally take over the club as new owner. Per our information during that meeting, the Member of Parliament made it clear, it will be difficult to manage the club per his current state but will rather put more effort to get an investor who is close to them and also a true fan of the game.
In July 2022, the owners including the past directors of the club had meeting with HI consortium owned by the Minority leader of Ghana’s Fourth parliament, Haruna iddrisu in relation to the club’s proposed takeover.
In August 2022, the deal couldn’t materialise due to administrative reason and some talks and meetings were done regarding the ownership of the club.
With Abena Brigidi, the director of the club and most importantly the management of the Aiyinase based club insisting it would be the group headed by Haruna iddrisu and not any other person who would be running the club on a day to day basis, the Premier League club were in a position to give the takeover the green light.
Meanwhile, Haruna iddrisu is proposing to take over fully as its owner whiles the owners are insisting to get some shares in between 70-30% with majority shares going in favour of the new owner.
Some Administrators and prominent people including Hon.Armah Kofi Buah want the club to remain here whiles others want the club to be taken out of here due to supporters behaviour and lack of support from the Nzema’s based companies.
DomesticSportgh.com can exclusive confirm that, the takeover has not been completed yet, and discussion is ongoing with regards to the percentage reasons and moving out the club from it’s original home.
Talks are ongoing though, and we understands the Minority leader has been approached for the said takeover but not yet completed and that’s the reasons why both parties have kept mute on the report since first published on September 29, 2022.
The reasons why the deal has not yet completed are;
•The new investors contemplating about 70/30% shares
•The new owner want the club move out from Nzemaland.
•Nzemas and prominent figures are pressuring Abena Brigidi not dare to sell the club.
•GNPC and Ghana Gas will cancel the deal should the club been sold
• Owners afraid the club will be relegated due to its spiritually bondage should it been removed from Nzema
• Aiyinase youth have written to the directors not dare to sell the club
• Top Nzema politicians are in to delay the process of its take over
