Ghana international Tariq Lamptey has revealed his decision to sign for Brighton and Hove Albion after leaving Chelsea was not a risk.
The youngster joined the Seagulls during the January 2020 transfer window after a brief stint with Chelsea’s first team despite playing for the club’s junior teams almost all of his life.
Tariq made his first appearance for the Chelsea senior team during a 2019/20 Premier League game against Arsenal at the Emirates, coming on for Fikayo Tomori in the 2-1 win under Frank Lampard.
However, continues lack of minutes in the team meant Tariq considered the offers he received during the winter transfer window with the player being convinced by Brighton’s project.
Tariq has been with the club for the last three-and-half years and played 20 games in the just-ended 2022/23 as the club secured European qualification for the first time in their history.
