I’m still a player of Hearts of Oak – Gladson Awako

Captain for Accra Hearts of Oak, Gladson Awako, has refuted claims that he has been sacked by the club, stating that he is still a ‘Hearts of Oak player’.

In the early hours of Thursday, July 20, several tabloids stated that the former player for TP Mazembe and Great Olympics had been fired by the Accra-based club, claiming that both sides had mutually decided to part ways.

Gladson Awako dispelled all the rumors regarding his affiliation with the team in an exclusive interview with Max FM on the Sports Pack Show, declaring that he is still a Hearts of Oak player.

“Few friends and family called to ask if the news was true. I was very surprised when I read the news myself. I am still a Hearts of Oak player”, the club captain revealed.

Awako stated, “I still have a year and some months left on my Hearts of Oak contract,” when asked about his current contract with the Phobians. “I recently had a meeting with the board to talk about my future, but we didn’t address parting ways. The occurrence of this is not new. I’m quite angry with the club,” he added.

Hearts of Oak have already released close to seven players this off-season after enduring a poor campaign in the 2022/23 BetPawa Premier League, with quite a few players expected to be shown the exit as well after the club prepares to enter the upcoming season with a revamped and young team.
