Head coach of Karela United Football club, Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko has hinted that the club is considering to adopt Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale as new home venue for next season, subject to approval by the Ghana FA through Club Licensing Board recommendation.
Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko, revealed that while they hope their CAM Park in Aiyinase will be approved on time, they are exploring the possibility of playing their home games in Tamale.
The decision stems from the requirements set by the Club Licensing Board that the park must meet specific criteria for hosting Ghana Premier League matches.
According to him, should the Ghana FA carry on with its plan and CLB requirements, it will be unlikely for Karela to use their desired CAM Park venue next season, therefore the club are considering adopting Tamale as new home venue.
He disclosed this in an exclusive interview with Kumasi based Sompa Sports which was monitored by Domesticsportsgh.com on Thursday.
“Looking at the current nature of CAM Park, We might not be able to host matches there, so it is possible we will play our matches here[Tamale], the issues is that the structures at Aiyinase, I mean the playing area, it has to be resurfaced, in a sense that, the field itself has deteriorating to the point that, is very dangerous to the players health, which I know definitely the GFA will not allow us to play there, if they didn’t not allow us, Tamale will be our next option, the bankroller of the club is leaving in Tamale, this our thought, I mean if anything to go by, Tamale should be our next option, ” He revealed.
This comes on the back of the club, being acquired by Ghanaian politician, Haruna iddrisu, in December 2022 during the break of the Ghana Premier League for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The former Minority Leader has been vocal about his acquisition of the team citing” Moving the club forward”.
The Pride and Passions boys will resume training this week in Tamale to begin preparations for the 2023/24 Ghana Football Season.
The club finished 7th on the league log with 47 points after the 2022/23 Ghana Premier League season.
