Ghana Premier League side, Karela United is set to be relocated from Aiyinase to the Northern Region of Ghana following the successful takeover.
The Aiyinase-based club have been taken over by Ghanaian politician, Haruna iddrisu in December 2022 in a deal worth around GHS3.1million.( $300,000).
However, in an exclusive interview with the local media on Monday, the former Minority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament has revealed that, his outfit is likely to be moved to Tamale due to poor nature of the club’s home venue, Crosby Awuah Memorial Park which has been rejected by the Club Licensing Board.
According to the lawmaker, it’s not his wish to move Karela United from Nzema Aiyinase in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
‘ It’s not my wish to have taken the team [Karela] away from Aiyinase and the people of Nzema but regrettable the GFA have disqualified the Aiyinase football pitch, which has not been desirable or meet their minimum standards, so we have to look elsewhere, we will look elsewhere to satisfy the licensing requirements”.
The club, currently having their preseason in the Northern Region, finished 7th in the Ghana Premier League last season with 47 points from 34 games in the concluded 2022/23 Ghana Premier campaign.
Haruna iddrisu is the Member of Parliament for the Tamale South constituency and his latest interview on the imminent relocation of the club suggests the club is looking to start a new chapter with the version of their new owner as the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season draws near.
Meanwhile, Karela United will open thier Ghana Premier League campaign with an away game against Legon Cities at the El Wak Stadium.
