Ali Jara credits media for helping him recover from paralysis

Former Ghana youth star Ali Jara expressed his gratitude to the media for playing a crucial role in his recovery, allowing him to regain strength and walk again, three decades after he was paralysed.

In an interview with Connect 97.1 FM, the former Hearts of Oak goalkeeper said, “It’s 30 years since I got paralyzed, and it took the media to help me come back to my feet. All I can say is God bless all the media houses for the gesture shown towards me. Today, if I can speak, it’s a joy and honour. I’m really grateful.”

Ali Jara’s last official game for Hearts of Oak was against Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium in October 1993. Despite playing through back pain, he completed the full game, which Kotoko won 1-0 with a goal from Frimpong Manso.

Weeks after the game, the young goalkeeper became paralysed and was subsequently flown to the United Kingdom for treatment. However, he has now made a remarkable recovery and can walk again, three decades after his paralysis.
