Tariq Lamptey returns from injury, trains with Brighton ahead of Premier League clash

Black Stars right-back Tariq Lamptey has returned to the turf after spending weeks nursing an injury sustained during Brighton’s clash against Olympique Marseille in the ongoing UEFA Europa League.

The former Chelsea defender is set to return to action as the Seagulls intensify preparations to face Nottingham Forest in a crucial Premier League game at the City Ground on Saturday afternoon.

After suffering an injury in October, the defender has been absent from numerous matches for both his club and the national team. He was sidelined for the Black Stars’ international friendlies against Mexico and the USA last month, in addition to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros a few days ago.

Fortunately, Lamptey has successfully recovered from the injury and has resumed training with the Brighton squad. His comeback is a notable positive for both Brighton and the Ghanaian national team, given his crucial role in both setups.

The Black Stars will be counting on the fitness of the 23-year-old as they look forward to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Ivory Coast next year.

Ghana will compete for spots in the knockout phase with seven-time champions Egypt, Mozambique and Cape Verde in Group B of the competition.

The Black Stars are hoping to bring an end to the 41-year-old AFCON trophy drought having last won in 1982. They only came close in 1992, 2010 and 2015 losing in the finals of all three editions.
