Chris Hughton deserves to be sacked- Kwesi Nyantakyi

Former Ghana Football Association President, Kwesi Nyantakyi has welcomed the decision to sack Chris Hughton as the head of Black Stars technical team.

The former Ghanaian born Irish international was sacked as Black Stars head coach following the team’s abysmal performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament going underway in Cote D’Ivoire.

Having masterminded Ghana’s qualification to the 34th edition in Ivory Coast, Ghana were hoping to win its fifth continental title.

However, the team got crashed at the group phase with two points after losing to Cape Verde and drawing with Egypt and Mozambique.

This means the Black Stars have suffered a back-to-back AFCON group phase elimination since 2019.

In an exclusive interview with GTV Sports+ earlier today on decision of the Football Association to sack the 64-year-old, Mr Nyantakyi said Hughton deserves to get sacked for the poor performance of the team.

” I support the decision by the FA, looking at his performance, Ghana has quality players to perform better than what they did at Afcon” the former CAF Executive Committee member noted.

According to him, the team has quality players to perform better than what they did and so I agree with the decision of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have named a five-member committee to search for a new head coach for the team within three weeks.
