Ex-Ghana Defender Rashid Sumaila’s Club Promoted to Division Two

Cape Coast-based Adisadel Youth Sporting Club, founded by former Black Stars and Kotoko defender Rashid Sumaila, has clinched promotion to the Division Two League after topping the standings in the recently concluded Division Three Middle League.
The club secured their spot in Division Two for the upcoming season with three victories and one defeat during the Middle League campaign.

Adisadel Youth SC, driven by ambition, is set to compete in the 2024/25 Central Region Division Two League following their promotion. Sumaila, following in the footsteps of other retired Ghanaian footballers like Nii Odartey Lamptey, Godwin Attram, and Awudu Issaka, established Adisadel Youth SC just last year to foster talent development in the country. Achieving promotion to the second division within a year marks a significant milestone for the club.

Beginning his career with Cape Coast-based Ebusua Dwarfs, Sumaila went on to play for Asante Kotoko before gaining international experience with clubs in South Africa, Kuwait, Qatar, and Serbia, including notable spells at Al Gharafa, Red Star Belgrade, Qadsia SC, Saham Club, and Muaither SC.

With 10 caps for the Black Stars since his debut in 2012, Sumaila was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Currently unattached, he is considering his options for a return to the field.
