The Ministry of Youth and Sports is demanding a strict maintenance schedule from the National Sports Authority (NSA) regarding stadia and sports facilities in the country.
According to the Ministry, this is part of its commitment to ensuring that sports infrastructure as well as facilities at all national stadia meet highest standards.
This comes after a request to have inspectors from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) was successful.
The Confederation had instructed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to seek an alternative venue outside Ghana after the poor nature of the pitch at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium became glaring during the 1-0 loss to Angola on Thursday, September 5.
The Ministry, as a result, requested the GFA to ask CAF officials to inspect the Accra and University of Ghana stadia for consideration for Black Stars’ games.
This was approved by CAF in a letter sent to the General Secretary of the GFA, calling for priority to be given the pitch before the qualifier on Friday, October 11.
In a reaction to the CAF approval, the Ministry in a statement welcomed the decision, reiterating its commitment.
”In line with this, the Ministry has directed the National Sports Authority (NSA) to, henceforth, apply strict maintenance schedule for our national stadia and other facilities.
”Concurrently, issues raised by CAF with the Baba Yara and Cape Coast stadia, are being addressed, and we look forward to another inspection by CAF soon, for restoration of the status of these national stadia as approved venues for CAF and FIFA matches.”
Ghana are currently 3rd in Group F behind Angola and Sudan.
