Kumasi Asante Kotoko look to have put the controversial issue of two of its players absconding from its camp in the United States of America behind them as the Porcupine Warriors marked their return to the Ghana Premier League with a 1-0 win over defending league champions FC Samartex 1996.
In the lead up to the game, reports of Kotoko’s two Sudanese players abandoning camp dominated the headlines. Kotoko were in the US to compete in a friendly game against MLS side DC United but the game was cancelled over visa issues for Kotoko.
Albert Amoah’s goal in the 32nd minute proved to be the winner and secured Kotoko’s third home win in a row at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
The loss was Samartex’s first of the season; on the other hand, the win over Samartex pushes Kotoko to second place in the standings at the time of writing with a game in hand.

Kotoko’s biggest rival Accra Hearts of Oak recorded its third drawn game in four league outings after playing out a goalless draw with Dreams FC.
This also marked the third time Hearts have registered a goalless draw after doing same against Nations FC and Aduana Stars.
