Former GFA Boss Kwesi Nyantakyi sues Despite Dan Kweku Yeboah, Peace FM, others over $2m embezzlement allegation

Former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi has filed a lawsuit against Despite Media journalist Dan Kweku Yeboah, along with Pulse Ghana and Ghanaweb, for allegedly publishing defamatory claims accusing him of embezzling $2 million from GFA accounts.

Nyantakyi who previously served as the member of the FIFA Council, argues that these allegations are ‘reckless and defamatory’ denying any misuse of GFA funds.

The lawsuit asserts that Yeboah’s remarks, allegedly broadcast on Peace FM, falsely accused Nyantakyi of withdrawing funds for personal use, which Nyantakyi says has significantly tarnished his reputation.

According to the lawsuit, Yeboah stated, “President Kwesi Nyantakyi nkoa ko yee GFA Sika two million dollars ($2m) efee Unibank ko di ye”—or, “President Kwesi Nyantakyi alone went to Unibank and withdrew GFA’s two million dollars and embezzled or misappropriated it for his personal benefit.” Nyantakyi argues that these statements were spread with intent to harm, leading to undue public scrutiny and professional damage.

The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday morning, also targets Pulse Ghana and GhanaWeb, which Nyantakyi claims further circulated Yeboah’s allegations without factual basis.
