Head coach of Ghana’s Black Stars Otto Addo has named Jordan Ayew of Leicester City the team’s captain for the final two African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Niger and Angola.

Addo made this public when he announced the squad for the two remaining matches in the series.

Jordan’s new responsibilities have come about because of Thomas Partey’s absence from the matches.

Ghana is in a dire position and needs to win both upcoming matches to stand a chance of qualifying for the tournament set to be held in Morocco in 2025.

The selection of Ayew as captain could bring valuable experience, especially as Ghana looks to end the qualifiers on a strong note.

In the Black Stars’ last two games against Sudan West Ham forward Mohammed Kudus captained the squad but that responsibility will now fall on Jordan Ayew who is the team’s most capped player.

Ghana are third in group F on two points with Angola on twelve points and Sudan and Niger on seven and one point respectively.
