The Black Stars of Ghana have fallen to 77th place in the latest FIFA rankings, courtesy of an extremely disappointing year in the history of Ghanaian football.
Led by Chris Hughton at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at the start of 2024, the Black Stars failed to win a single match, thereby crashing out of the tournament in the group stages.
Following the disgraceful exit of the Black Stars at the AFCON for the second consecutive time, the team kicked off their matches in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with a bang.
The appointment of Otto Addo as the substantive head coach of the Black Stars after previously leading the team to the 2022 World Cup as a caretaker head coach got many tongues wagging, but the Ghana Football Association kept faith in the German-trained gaffer.
After two wins out of the two matches Ghana had played in the World Cup qualifiers, the team headed into the qualifiers for the 2025 AFCON but ended up failing miserably, with many calling for the dismissal of Otto Addo, which the GFA turned a deaf ear to.
As a result of the poor performances in the year 2024, Ghana’s position on the FIFA ranking has declined to 77th, but maintained its 14th place on the CAF rankings.
