GFA appoints AFCON winner on upgraded technical team

Former African Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner with Cameroon, Winfried Anton Schafer, has been appointed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as Technical Advisor to the Black Stars of Ghana.
With a managerial career spanning over 40 years, Schafer will also serve as the Director of Football at the GFA.

African gold medal-winning coach Desmond Ofei has replaced John Paintsil as assistant coach to Otto Addo. The former U-20 coach was recently named SWAG Coach of the Year for 2024, solidifying his status as one of the best young coaches in the country.

Following the Black Stars’ disastrous 2025 AFCON qualifiers, one of the most notable issues about the team is the psyche of the players. This has compelled the GFA to employ the services of Belgian psychologist Kris Perquy.

Perquy is experienced in sports psychology, working with the Belgian FA for 15 years. He will be joined by fellow national Gregory De Grauwe, a Video Analysis coach with a UEFA License B certificate.
