It Is Finished- Finance Minister on official abolishment of Betting Tax

Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has reacted to the official abolishment of the Betting Tax and a series of taxes and levies.

The Betting Tax levied 10% on game winnings on gambling activities including lotteries proved to be a controversial issue that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) promised to abolish when elected into power.

Earlier on Wednesday, April 2, President John Dramani Mahama, assented to the bill that abolishes the Betting Tax and other levies including the Emissions Tax and Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy).

This development comes on the back of Dr. Forson presenting the bill to abolish the aforementioned levies to the Ninth Parliament in Ghana’s Fourth Republic in March, 2025.

Reacting to the news of President Mahama signing the bill to abolish the Betting Tax, Dr. Forson wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) page, “It is Finished! 1. E-Levy 2. Betting Tax 3. Emission Tax”.
