Kaizer Chiefs, Kotoko Toyota Cup Showdown

South African football giants Kaizer Chiefs will rekindle their historic rivalry with Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko in the second edition of the Toyota Cup, set for 26 July at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

This high-profile encounter brings together two of Africa’s most iconic clubs in a clash that transcends pre-season action, celebrating legacy, fan culture, and commercial synergy.

Chiefs, who enjoy a strong following in Durban, consider the Moses Mabhida Stadium a second home. The Toyota Cup—launched in 2024 as a three-year initiative—is part of Kaizer Chiefs’ ongoing partnership with Toyota, which began in 2021. The link is further cemented by Toyota South Africa’s base in Prospecton, near Durban.

The inaugural edition in 2024 saw Chiefs suffer a 4-0 defeat to Tanzania’s Young Africans, and they’ll be eager for redemption in this year’s fixture.

Both Chiefs and Kotoko come into the game as domestic FA Cup champions and will represent their nations in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup. Their last face-off was in 2001 during the Vodacom Challenge—also held in Durban—making this reunion long overdue and highly anticipated.
