Goalkeeper Mo Camara leads Kotoko to Toyota Cup victory over Kaizer Chiefs in dramatic penalty shootout

Kumasi Asante Kotoko Sporting Club are officially the winners of the 2025 Toyota Cup after beating South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs in a dramatic penalty shootout in South Africa.

The pre-season game ended goalless at the end of regulation time and goalkeeper Mohammed Camara proved to be Kotoko’s saviour as he made three stops including the title sealing save on Kaizer Chiefs captain Inacio Miguel to give Kotoko a 3-2 win.

Miguel’s missed penalty attempt summed up a terrible day at the office in front of goal as he also missed a penalty kick earlier in the game in the 83rd minute which would have put his team in the lead.

Kotoko defender Lord Amoah committed a clumsy foul in the penalty box and got penalized for his error. He went on to miss his kick in the penalty shootout with fellow defender and Kotoko captain Samba (O’Neil) Gilbani also missing his kick.

The game forms part of preseason for both teams ahead of the new season with Kotoko bagging its second title in as many offseason competitions after beating rivals Accra Hearts of Oak 2-1 to win the President’s Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors will represent Ghana in the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup.
