Democracy Cup rescheduled to September 5 at new venue

The second edition of the Democracy Cup won’t take place at the Accra Sports Stadium as originally planned following a change in plans communicated by Ghana’s House of Parliament on Thursday, August 21.

The event that is headlined by a match between city rivals Accra Hearts of Oak and Accra Great Olympics was set to take place at the Accra Stadium on August 29 but has been moved to the University of Ghana Stadium on September 5.

The Democracy Cup is an event championed by Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to promote the tenets of democracy in the country and the first edition took place last year with Kumasi Asante Kotoko beating Hearts of Oak to win the title.Ghana Premier League tickets

“The decision to reschedule was made after careful consideration to ensure optimal facilities, security and a premier experience for spectators, players and supporters nationwide.”

“The University of Ghana Sports Stadium offers premier amenities and a capacious environment to host this high-profile contest in the spirit of fair play, sportsmanship, and peaceful civic engagement” portion of the statement read.
