Continuing the 2019/20 season behind closed doors will be highly costly for the NSA and clubs- Prof Peter Twumasi
Director-General for the National Sports Authority (NSA) boss, Professor Peter Twumasi, has admitted that continuing the 2019/20 football season during the Covid-19 pandemic behind closed doors may lead to the NSA incurring more cost.
Football activities have been suspended in the West African country since March due to the coronavirus pandemic which has seen Ghana record over 6000 cases and 31 deaths.
There has been a talk for Ghana to emulate that of the Bundesliga and continue the season behind closed doors without the fans.
The NSA boss has opposed those calls and states that clubs may have to pay more for the usage of the various stadia if the season will continue behind closed doors.
“If its necessary to play the games behind closed doors. The National Sports Authority (NSA) would be tasked on maintenance of the stadia, electricity, water as well as COVID-19 protocols. These include Veronica buckets, tissues, soaps, sanitizers and fumigation of the stadia before next matches can be played.
“It will increase the cost of the NSA similar to that of the clubs.”, he told FOX FM in Kumasi.
