Coach Abdulai Gazali of Asante Kotoko disagrees GFA’s plan to make DOL an 18-club Competition.
Assistant Coach of Asante Kotoko Abdulai Gazali, popularly known as coach “Gaza” has opposed plans by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to make the Division One League (DOL) an 18-club Competition.
A statement from the country’s football governing body earlier this month announced that it is commencing plans that will see the lower tier league which is currently played by 48 clubs [3 zones] being reduced to just 18 teams.
Speaking to Gbanju FM with Sey mubarik on the latest communique from the Ghana FA, coach Gazali kicked against the whole idea while labeling it as a non-starter.
“Personally,I don’t agree with the proposal. when you look at it financially it doesn’t sound well for clubs”.
“Club’s would have to travel up and down, there would be too much travels yet the club don’t have any sponsorship” he said.
“How many clubs are in North,Brong Ahafo, Kumasi and Accra? There are many clubs and so how would they be able to choose the clubs ,what will be the criteria. So for me I disagree with the proposal” he added.
Though the GFA is beginning the processes to make the DOL an 18-club competition, its implementation will be done in 2 years time.
