BREAKING: Egyptian FA rejects Kaiser Chiefs

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has refused to host Kaizer Chiefs and Wydad Athletic Club for their postponed CAF Champions League encounter. In yet another twist within the logistical nightmare around Chiefs’ Champions League group stage debut, the EFA has come out to apologise to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for agreeing to host the game. After Chiefs proposed the postponement of the rescheduled Friday, 19 February date at Al Salam City, CAF secretary general Abdel Bah confirmed to KickOff.com that an agreed date of 28 February was finalised. However, the EFA has now issued a statement claiming they are unable to honour the fixture because Al Ahly face Al Gaish in the Egyptian Premier League encounter of the same day. “The EFA would like to apologise about hosting the game between Wydad and Kaizer Chiefs in the CAF Champions League that has been postponed from its original date,” the statement read. “The EFA does not see the new date [28 February] suitable to host the match and apologises to CAF and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation.” Chiefs are scheduled to face Guinea Ligue 1 champions Horoya on 23 February as their original group stage opener shows no sign of finding an agreed new venue.
