Eleven Wonders attempted an upset at Cosby Awuah Memorial Park when they scored first against Karela United but couldn’t hold on to their lead as Karela United equalised to end their 2017/18 Ghana Premier League match day two fixture 1-1.
It was a clash of the debutants as both teams are among the three newly promoted sides in this season’s competition. Abdul Wahab opened the scoring for the Techiman based side after Ampem Dacosta failed to clear his lines properly in the early minutes of the game.
Godfred Saka suffered a muscle tear which forced coach Johnson Smith to replace him with Isaac Kwain. Karela United dominated and created a lot of chances in the first half but excellent goalkeeper, John Moosie denied them on numerous occasions.
Karela United’s prayers were finally answered when William Opoku Mensah connected Isaac Kwain’s corner kick to give them the equaliser. Karela United continued pressing in the second half in search for the match the winner but Eleven Wonders’ defence proved too strong to broken down.
