Christian Atsu Twasam has brought an end to his five-year spell at Newcastle United with a farewell note to the English Premier League outfits on Tuesday morning.

The Ghanaian international is now free to join any club without any transfer fee after finding it difficult to secure a first-team spot under Steve Bruce.

Atsu was not a registered player for Newcastle United in their 2020-21 squad and had to shift his attention to the under-23 side.

Despite the sad ending to his time with the Magpies, the 29-year old appreciated the club, his teammates and the fans for the love showed to him at the St.Janes’ Park.

The 2015 African Cup of Nations best player on Tuesday morning took to his Facebook page to announce his departure.
Saying goodbye to Newcastle United, Atsu said ”When I arrived in Newcastle almost 5 years ago, I was made to feel welcome from the start..by everyone at the club and especially by the fans,”

”I grew to love the city and my young family feel very at home here. Sadly, the time has now come for me to leave the club, so I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who is part of the Newcastle United family.

”Thank you to the Toon Army fans, a lot of whom I’ve met around the city. I will never forget my time in the North East and for sure I will follow the results every week. Thank you my geordie staff, players & fans, it’s been a pleasure! ???.”he added.

Atsu started his European playing career in Portugal with FC Porto before loaned to Rio Ave before he was permanently transferred to Chelsea in the 2013.

Atsu was sent on-loan to Vitesse Arhem same season and won the clubs player of the season Awards in the 2013-14 season. He also had spells with Everton, Bournemouth and Malaga before he was bought by Newcastle United ahead of the 2017-2018 season.
