Cecafa announced Saturday that the first female president in Tanzania’s history has supported the competition with $100,000.

The President of Cecafa Wallace Karia has praised Samia Suluhu for coming up to support women’s football in the region.

“We thank Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan for coming up to sponsor Women’s football in the region,” he said, as quoted by cecafaonline.com.

“We are going to make sure we uplift the standards of women football in the region,” added Karia.

He added that going forward, the Tanzania President will support the regional women’s tournament which will be named the Samia Suluhu Cecafa Women’s Championship.

Karia explained that the US$100,000 offered by the Tanzania President a few days ago will be used as cash prize for the best teams, individual winners, and to purchase various prizes.

Besides qualifying for the inaugural Caf Women’s Champions League final, the winners will bag $30,000, while the second-placed takes $20,000, and the third-placed team will get $10,000.

There will also be prizes for the best players, referees, and coaches.
