WORLD NEWS: Jerome Boateng fined £1.5m for assaulting ex-fiancée
Ghanian-born former Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has reportedly been fined £1.5 million after he was found guilty of assaulting his ex-fiancee.
A court in Munich has found the Olympique Lyon centre-back guilty of actions including “biting and punching his ex-girlfriend”, according to the Daily Mail News paper in United Kingdom.
The grievous bodily harm reportedly occurred three years ago, when the former couple, who had previously been engaged but then split up, were on holiday in the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean, but the German star avoided a potential five-year jail sentence.
The wife, Sherin Senler, is the mother of their twin daughters, and she reportedly told the court that “Boateng bit her and spat blood in her face before punching” In her in the kidney so hard that she could not breathe”.
Before the defender was convicted, he refuted his wife claims and accused her of attacking him instead, saying that she had become aggressive and started insulting him before she lifted her hands to the 33-year-old, resulting in an injury to his lip.
It has been a turbulent year for Boateng – his ex-girlfriend Kasia Lenhardt allegedly committed suicide in a Berlin flat in February while he was playing for Bayern at the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar.
