Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has stressed the importance of next week’s qualifier against Zimbabwe in their objectives to qualify for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Bafana lead Group G on 10 points – a point ahead of Ghana – making a win against the Limpopo neighbours on November 11 at FNB Stadium non-negotiable considering that The Black Stars are expected to also win earlier on in the day against Ethiopia.
The Black Stars will face Ethiopia earlier that same day further down the Soweto Highway at Orlando Stadium on a day that will have all four countries in Group G playing just under 10 kilometres apart.
Both Zimbabwe and Ethiopia are out of contention for qualification to the next round.
“For us, it is a tricky game,” says Broos in reference to the game against The Warriors.
“Firstly, they are our neighbours so there is no doubt that it is always difficult, but I don’t know what they are going to do. Is the coach [Norman Mapeza] going to put a team in preparation for the Afcon and try some new players or is he going back to the older players like before in preparing for the Afcon. So, this is also something that we have to see in the next week.
“Again, we have to focus on the fact that we have to win that game because we need to be in Ghana with one point ahead or maybe more.
