The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick is confident Nigeria will beat Ghana to qualify for the 2022 World Cup.
The Black Stars and the Super Eagles will square off in the African playoffs for this year’s tournament in late March in a doubleheader for one of Africa’s five tickets to Qatar.
Ghana will host their West African rivals at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on March 24 before going to Abuja for the reverse fixture three days later, with the winner over the two ties qualifying for the World Cup final tournament.
In readiness for the games, Pinnick is leading an NFF delegation to meet Nigeria players in London and has also expressed their resolve to do everything to secure the ticket ahead of the four-time African champions.
After the latest meeting, Pinnick said: “In furtherance to my tweets regarding our plans to ensure we qualify for this year’s Fifa World Cup in Qatar, we’ve held a series of meetings in London with our Super Eagles players. It was me, the team secretary, the coach & technical adviser of the team.
“And I’m so proud of the committment and zeal I’m seeing and getting from the team. From players like Etebo, Kelechi, Troost and new lad, Lookman, the message was and is clear; we will play at the World Cup and give a good account of ourselves.
“We are not going to Qatar to make up the numbers. We are going to give it our best shot.”
The three-time African champions qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia but exited at the group stage while Ghana failed to qualify after three consecutive appearances.
