Having won Afcon in 1963, 1965, 1978, and 1982, the Black Stars are the third most successful African side behind Egypt and Cameroon, who have each won the tournament at least five times since its inception.

Despite their immense success, though, Ghana no longer have any trophy evidence of their continental achievements as the Afcon cups they have won cannot be accounted for, per Angel FM.

In a discussion about Ghana’s infrastructural problems on the radio station, pundit Kofi Jerry claimed that none of the trophies can be found at the Secretariat of the Ghana Football Association, where they are supposed to be kept.

“We want to win an Afcon but we can’t account for the four trophies that we have won because it is missing, are we serious at all in this country?” he said during the show.

“How can we even win another Afcon when the four trophies are missing?”

The host of the show and journalist Saddick Adams seemingly confirmed these claims.

“You know that CAF gives you a replica when you win the trophy, but then you get the golden one when you win it for keeps [three times],” Adams said.

“Before the 2019 Afcon, I asked questions about the four trophies that we have won and I was told that we lost the trophies during the coup when the National Sports Council Office was ransacked.”
