Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang says he gave up a huge part of his salary to sign for Barcelona because it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to play for the Spanish giants.
The Gabonese captain was reportedly earning £350,000 a week at Arsenal before his departure.
The 32-year-old now earns just £80,000 a week at the Catalan club, according to the Daily Mail.
“My father did it all with my lawyer and they can say it best,” Aubameyang told Mundo Deportivo.
“But the week before, we already knew that I could end up signing for Barca. The week before, there were already contacts and I knew it.
“I really wanted to go to Barca. I gave up my salary because it is an opportunity that you have once in your life.”
Aubameyang had to leave Arsenal in the January transfer window after falling out with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.
He was stripped of his Gunners’ captaincy after a disciplinary breach that saw him being left out of Arsenal match-day squads before his departure.
Aubameyang opened his Barcelona account over the weekend against Valencia by bagging a hat-trick in the La Liga.
