Elisha Owusu says he is ready to give his all to ensure that Ghana qualifies for the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the expense of Nigeria after earning his debut Black Stars call-up.
The 24-year-old midfielder, born in France to Ghanaian parents, was named in Otto Addo’s 27-man squad for the World Cup qualifying playoff against Nigeria on the back of 11 starts and six substitute appearances as a defensive midfielder for Gent in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic shortly after arriving at the Kotoka International Airport on Monday evening, Owusu said the opportunity to play for Ghana was a “big achievement and a dream come true” which had filled him and his entire family with pride.

“I have always wanted to play for Ghana, the country of my parents because that’s my country and I am glad it has come to pass,” a delighted Owusu said.

“It is amazing and a big call up because all players fight to play in the World Cup, so I am excited about this opportunity”.

On the grudge playoff against Nigeria, Owusu said he was aware of the magnitude of the tie and the opportunity it presented to all Black Stars players.

“Every player wants to play this kind of big game, we know that it will be hard for us but we are Ghana and we want to play in the World Cup, so we will give everything to play in the World Cup”.

He added that he was ever-ready to play any role he will be assigned by the coach, whether as a starter or a substitute.
