Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz says their tie against Senegal is still goalless despite a 1-0 win at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday in the first leg of their 2022 Fifa World Cup African qualifying playoffs.
An Aliou Ciss own goal off a rebound from Mohamed Salah’s effort early in the game was what decided the rematch of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) final.
The 69-year-old Portuguese is convinced the Pharaohs will ‘fight’ to consolidate their lead in Diamniadio and qualify for the World Cup ahead of the Teranga Lions.
“The score is still 0-0 for me. We will go to Senegal and fight there, and everyone has to double their efforts,” Queiroz said after the game.
The Mozambique-born reminded the media about his achievements in his coaching career: “I have 44 years of experience in coaching, and more than 200 international matches.
“I’m the only manager to guide four countries to the World Cup, and among the best 10 managers in the world in terms of results.”
The reverse fixture will be played at the Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade on Tuesday, March 29 to determine who qualifies for the World Cup.
