Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kurt Okraku has denied that the local football governing body has reached an agreement with Otto Addo to become Black Stars head coach.
According to reports, the GFA and Addo have agreed a one-year contract for the former Ghana international to lead the Black Stars in upcoming assignments, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
This comes after Addo’s stint as the team’s interim coach ended. He was tasked with leading Ghana to the World Cup, which he did by beating Nigeria in the play-offs.
“I woke up this morning to many stories on coach Otto Addo. Truth [is] Ghana has not met with his employers [Dortmund] yet. Steps are being taken to that effect and we will keep everybody informed on progress made.
“Getting our technical team in place for upcoming assignments is high on the agenda of our football association,” Okraku wrote on his official page.
Before Addo was named interim Black Stars coach, Okraku and other GFA officials traveled to Germany to seek permission from Dortmund.
Addo is Dortmund’s trainer scout and occasionally serves as an assistant coach. He is very important to them and their project.
Domesticsportsgh understands GFA officials led by Okraku will travel to Germany next week to meet with Dortmund officials about Addo.
They hope to appoint Addo as a permanent coach as soon as possible so that he can begin preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
