Legon Cities produced a fine display to beat league leaders Asante Kotoko 3-1at Baba Yara Stadium and move up to 8th position in the Premier League table.
It was a performance full of graft and hard work, as well as moments of wonderful attacking football.
Hans Kouffie strikes won it for City, who thoroughly deserved the victory having dominated proceedings and been by far the bolder team.
City dominated a somewhat cagey first half, enjoying most of the possession and consistently winning the ball back within seconds of losing it thanks to the team’s high press. Kotoko barely managed a sustained period of possession and chose instead to defend in numbers.
But City struggled to craft clear-cut chances, despite the home team dominance. Kotoko weren’t expansive, but their defensive line was solid and it left City with little space to create.
Kotoko returned from recess looking to avoid defeat at their favourite games. However, it was Legon Cities who took the game to the Porcupine Warriors.
Hans Kwofie combined with Jonah Attuquaye to restore Legon Cities’ goal lead. The forward made no mistake as he dived to connect a cross from Jonah Attuquaye just two minutes into the second half.
Despite several efforts to find themselves back into the game, Legon Cities remained resolute at the back as it ended 1-3 in favour of the visitors.
The results meant Legon Cities climb to 8th on the league table as Kotoko maintained their 8 point lead with Bechem United hosting Karela United on Monday.
A win for Bechem United could see them reduce Kotoko’s lead to 5 points.
