The Executive Council (ExCo) of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is due to meet and look into the merits of the reimbursement claims by Asante Kotoko following the last minute cancellation of their Premier League match against Ashantigold in Obuasi last Thursday.

Following the cancellation of the game, the Porcupine Warriors wrote to the GFA demanding a reimbursement of the cost incurred in preparing for the game which included hotel bills and transportation from Kumasi to Obuasi.

Speaking to the Graphic Sports in an interview last Friday, the Communications Director of the FA, Henry Asante Twum, admitted that the GFA had received a letter from Kotoko in that regard, adding that once there was merit in their claim, it would only be appropriate for them to get a refund.

According to him, the FA president and his General Secretary who were part of the ExCo were out of town so upon their return, they would convene a meeting to consider the merits or otherwise of Kotoko’s demands.

“It is the Executive Council which will take that decision so until a decision is taken, I really can’t tell how they will deal with the matter,” he said.

He regretted the late notice given to the clubs which had caused the inconvenience but noted that there was very little the FA could do about it, adding that once the clubs were able to prove the expenditure, they would be reimbursed.

“The General Secretary and the FA president are out of town so when the call came from the Police and we were trying to see how best to go about the issue, we spoke to Emma (Dasoberi), the administrative manager of Kotoko and that was when he informed us that the team had already pitched camp at Obuasi.

“But under the circumstances, we couldn’t do much about it than to inform them that the game would not come off”, he explained.

“As for the reimbursement, once there is proof that I spent this, I spent that, it would be looked into because it’s not a big deal.

“Ashantigold can also raise an issue that they moved to camp and they also spent money, so it is no big deal, it’s a normal thing,” he stressed.
