Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori has kept his World Cup dreams alive after being included in Ghana’s latest international squad ahead of the upcoming showpiece tournament.
Ofori was included in the Ghana squad that suffered a 3-0 defeat to Brazil on Friday in France before a 1-0 win over Nicaragua on Tuesday evening in Spain in the international break.
For the game against Brazil, Ofori was named on the bench as a substitute with Joseph Wollacott starting in goals.
However, last night the Buccaneer shot-stopper was thrown into the fray to start against the Central Americans as he kept a clean sheet.
It was Ofori’s first appearance in over a year with his last having come against Bafana Bafana last year in June after which he battled with injury forcing him out of the national team.
Though he is one of only two players that were named in the current plying their trade in Africa, Ofori is expected to find his way into the final World Cup squad.
The Black Stars will play Switzerland in November before heading to the World Cup in Qatar where they will have Portugal, South Korea, and Uruguay in their group.
Ofori has started off solid for Pirates with five clean sheets in nine appearances conceding four goals.
He is the only player from the PSL likely to be selected for his national team for the World Cup from November 21-December 18.
