In October 2021, Atletico Bilbao forward Inaki Williams made headlines when he became the all-time record holder for consecutive LaLiga appearances after playing in his 203rd Spanish top-flight match in a row, overtaking former Real Sociedad star Juanan Larranaga.

This run stretched from 2016, with the Ghana international last missing a LaLiga game on 7 April that year, going on to earn the unofficial tag of being the world’s fittest player.

Since breaking the record, Williams has continued to feature in the Spanish top flight and has now amassed an incredible 251 appearances in a row.

However, that incredible run has now ended, with the striker missing the Basque club’s 1-0 defeat to Celta Vigo on Sunday due to physical discomfort, according to The Athletic.

Williams’ injury-free streak nearly ended earlier in the campaign, when he had to be taken off after suffering an injury against Cadiz, but the forward recovered quickly enough to play in his team’s next game.

It remains unclear how severe the injury thatkept him out of the match against Celta is, with the club’s next fixture being against Cadiz on Friday night.

Since breaking into Bilbao’s first team in 2014, the 28-year-old has scored 80 goals and created 52 assists in 362 matches across all competitions.
