Lionel Messi’s camp have issued a statement regarding reports around the Argentina superstar’s future at Paris Saint-Germain.
While it is reported that the 35-year-old received an enormous €400 million per year offer from Saudi Arabia giants Al Hilal this week, PSG and FC Barcelona are still believed to be the only two clubs who are actually in talks with the player.
Last week, Barca vice-president Rafa Yuste confirmed their intention to bring the Argentine back to the Camp Nou, with with talks between the club and Messi’s representatives already underway.
PSG, meanwhile are left with just under three months before the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner is no longer on their books and negotiations over a contract renewal are believed to have began earlier this year but have stalled in recent weeks.
There has since been some suggestions that Messi will leave the Parc des Princes permanently at the end of the season due to several reasons, including his poor relationship with the fans and supposedly being offered a reduced salary by the Parisians.
However, his entourage have now come out to set the record straight regarding the latter.
“It’s strange to see news about the club wanting to lower Leo’s salary, or not wanting to extend his contract circulate. We don’t want to play this little game,” Messi’s camp said in a statement published by Le Parisien.
“This kind of fake news doesn’t do Leo, nor his relationship with the club, any good. But perhaps that’s exactly what some people want.
“We won’t make a public statement, but not only is it clear that Leo and the club are negotiating, but the club want Leo to stay, as the manager (Christophe Galtier) recently said.
“It is therefore strange to see someone divulge something else to the press. What interest do they have in lying? It would be good to ask those that are doing it.”
