The Sudan Football Association (SFA) has applied to host the Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) – CECAFA Kagame Cup 2023.
Auka Gecheo, the CECAFA Executive Director confirmed on Thursday that Sudan will now host the CECAFA Kagame Cup between July 15-29th, 2023.
Top teams in the region including Al Hilal, El Merreikh (Sudan), Young Africans SC, Simba SC (Tanzania) and League champions from all CECAFA members will also take part in the tournament.
Uganda’s Express FC are the defending champions after they stopped Malawian outfit Nyasa Big Bullets FC 1-0 in the final when they tournament was last played in 2021 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Last year Sudan also hosted the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier for the CECAFA Zone which was won by Uganda Hippos.
According to CECAFA the other tournaments in the 2023 calendar will be hosted by Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda.
Kenya will host both the CECAFA U-18 Women’s Championship and the CECAFA U-18 Boys Championship, while Uganda will stage the CECAFA U-15 Boys Championship and the CAF Women’s Championship League Zonal qualifiers. The Pan African Schools Championship Zonal qualifier will take place in Rwanda.
CECAFA will announce which Member Association will host the CECAFA U-23 Championship.
