Asante Kotoko interim coach Abdulai Gazale insists they are still in with a shout of retaining the Ghana Premier League title after a 3-1 win over already-relegated Kotoku Royals on Monday.

A first-half brace from Georges Mfegue put the Porcupine Warriors in the driver’s seat at the Dawu Sports Stadium before Rocky Dwamena sealed their first victory in four matches.

Aduana Stars relinquished top spot following a 3-0 defeat to Accra Lions on Saturday and Gazale’s side moved up to fourth place as they maintained the six-point gap to league leaders Medeama.

Gazale is confident of pipping their rivals to a record 25th championship crown by collecting maximum points from their remaining three games against Karela United, Accra Lions and Dreams.

“For sure [we are in contention for the title]. When you look at the table now we are in the fourth place,” he said after the clash in Accra.

“If we are able to pick up nine points from the last three games, hoping that any of teams at the top will drop points, we can still make it up.

“This match is a motivation match to us. It is an assurance that in the last three matches, we are not going to drop a single point.

“Karela is a good side but we are going to prepare, put the right things in place to get that three points next week.”
