Accra Hearts of Oak defender Caleb Amankwa has dismissed claims that his outfit played a match of convenience against Medeama SC last Sunday.
The Yellow and Mauve swept aside the Premier League giants at the Accra Sports Stadium as they leapfrogged Aduana to reach the summit of the league standings.
The Tarkwa-based club inflicted an emphatic 5-1 win over the Phobians to go top of the table after 31 matches.
“The claims suggesting that we were influenced by money or played a match of convenience are completely untrue,” Amankwah stated.
“Hearts of Oak is a prestigious club, and as players, we would never invite trouble for ourselves or tarnish the reputation of such a big club by engaging in a compromised match.”
Amankwah emphasized that no one approached the team before or after the game to influence their performance, and Medeama SC defeated them fair and square.
“There were no external factors that influenced us. Medeama SC defeated us on fair grounds,” he assured during an interview with Oyerepa FM, a Kumasi based club.
The Phobians are 7th on the league standings on 45 points, 8 points behind new leaders Medeama.
